It’s only January and 2025 has just begun, but our family trip to Negros for my younger sister’s wedding is already the highlight of my year.

From Manila, we flew into Bacolod-Silay airport, where Bee Transport (FB Page here) picked us up for a two-hour drive to San Carlos for lunch. Along the way, we passed through a scenic mountain road in Don Salvador Benedicto (DSB), a municipality in Negros Occidental known for its cool weather, and a popular day trip from Bacolod.
Our friendly driver pointed out a huge lion statue (Link to Google Maps here) and asked if we wanted to stop for photos. Since it was going to be a long travel day, we happily agreed. But being a family of foodies, we ended up staying longer for cassava chips and good coffee while enjoying the beautiful mountain views.

After an hour, we arrived at Mister C, an outdoor cafe in San Carlos (Pin here). Located in a park near a football field and shaded by a massive Acacia tree, the place had a laid-back vibe, the kind where you can easily hang out for hours. Soon, the food started coming out - dish after dish. Even though we had just snacked, we all excitedly dug in. After all, nothing beats a heavy meal with rice. The dishes were a mix of Filipino and Western, and everything was delicious!

After a wonderful lunch, we went to Insikwate, a charming roadside cafe specializing in cacao drinks and snacks, just 1.6 KM from Mr. C. Full. As full as I was, I couldn't resist their iced cacao, perfect with the humid afternoon. Their cacao brownies are a family favorite too. I recommend grabbing a box or two when you visit.

Later, we picked up dinner from Tio Apin’s Inasal across Gaisano Mall—a local favorite for grilled food.
That night, we stayed at Kwartito's, a 3,600 sqm private villa that can accommodate up to 14 guests and features an incredible view of Mt. Kanlaon (Airbnb link here). As sunset approached, the chilly weather set in, but my brothers and I couldn't resist the pool to burn off all the food we ate that day. |

The gorgeous mountain scenery, delicious food, and quality time with family made for the perfect warm-up to my sister’s wedding the next day.
