A nice and easy hike up Mt. Matinik (San Miguel, Bulacan)

To welcome 2024, I reunited with good old friends, Celine, Gretchen, Ferdz and Kara for a short hike in Bulacan.

First hike for 2024

Mt. Matinik is a relatively new trail (opened 1-2 years ago) in Biak na Bato, sharing the same jump-off as the more popular mountain, Mt. Manalmon. Hiking enthusiasts can make the most of their trip by combining it with Mt. Manalmon and/or Mt. Gola.

Average Hiking Time is 1-2 hours to the summit. As most of the trail is passing open areas, bring protection from the heat. There's ample parking space and areas to change after your hike. You can also take a dip in the river. Community stores are at the jump-off, if you need to buy drinks or snacks. Expect to get your shoes wet when you cross shallow sections of the river.

💸Hiking Information &
Expenses (as of January 2024)
Getting to the jump-off
If bringing your own vehicle
Roads up until the jump-off are well-paved. Parking spots are plenty but mostly on dirt road.

Via Public Transpo
From Baliwag Bus terminal, (Link here), take a bus bound for Gapan and ask the driver to let you off at San Miguel, Bulacan near the Red Horse signage (as in the local beer brand). This is a massive landmark which will be on the left side of the road coming from Manila and pretty hard to miss. Lots of bikers take photos in front of this statue. There's a tricycle terminal near the intersection where the driver will let you off. Just tell the driver to bring you to "Madlum",

Expenses
Entry Fee - 50 Pesos (Barangay + Environmental Fee)
Guide Fee for Mt. Matinik is 500 Pesos (it's usually a 1:5 ratio or 1 guide for 5 people)
Accepts walk-ins
